The laneway project was a series of quick charettes, run at the beginning of the Masters course by Prof. John Macarthur in 2008. The charettes coincided with a Brisbane City Council initiative to install artworks in several Brisbane CBD lanes so as to lift their appearance and facilitate further use. As of 2012, the BCC laneways project is beginning to bear fruit, with a number of small bars, restaurants and shops spring up in previously back-of-house areas. This proposal was about finding space in a confined volume, using light and thousands of lengths of thin wire to illuminate the space at the top of the laneway by night.
